Denver Carpet: Sloane’s Selects Kavod Senior Life Winner of Facebook Contest

This week, Sloane’s Carpet Secret concluded a month-long Facebook contest, the goal of which was to provide a Denver charity or nonprofit organization with free Denver carpet, pad and installation. Kavod Senior Life, formerly Allied Jewish Apartments, was selected.

Fans of Sloane’s Carpet Secret on Facebook nominated their favorite Colorado charities and nonprofits to receive carpet, padding and installation donated by Sloane’s. Nominees included:

  • Denver Children’s Advocacy Center – DCAC works to improve the lives of children traumatized by sexual abuse and violence with prevention, education and direct services.
  • Rocky Mountain Cancer Assistance – A nonprofit organization providing financial assistance for the basic living needs of cancer patients receiving treatment in Colorado.
  • The Edwards Foundation for Rescued Animals – a small privately owned no-kill operation in Elbert County rescuing large animals for more than 25 years
  • The Action Center – The Action Center’s mission is to provide an immediate response to basic human needs and promote pathways to self-sufficiency for Jefferson County residents and the homeless.

During the qualification process, a few nominees deferred the opportunity. Rocky Mountain Cancer Assistance Board Member Rick Roundy, for example, advised his organization, while “thrilled to have been mentioned among other causes so worthy of recognition,” believed the gift of carpet, “would provide greater impact to other missions.” Sloane’s Carpet Secret owner Scott Alban called this, “an amazing testament to the quiet undercurrent of goodwill among Denver charities and nonprofits.”

On selecting the winner, Alban noted, “Kavod provided a compelling story and an ability for us to help an upstanding Denver organization achieve its goals.” Kavod’s mission is “to provide life-enriching experiences for its residents through a broad range of housing and support services.”

Alban said the installation date was not yet confirmed but is expected to occur before the end of the year.

This was the second Facebook contest Sloane’s sponsored in 2014. In February, Sloane’s installed free carpet for a Castle Rock family whose story won the first contest of the year.
