Polka Dot Decorating: Carpet Tiles and More

You might think of polka dots only for itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny yellow bikinis or party plates, cups and napkins, but we think it’s time to expand out of your comfort zone and consider doing a bit of decorating with the mighty dot. It’s OK if you’re not ready to purchase an entire room of polka dot carpet tiles, but even if it’s just a small accessory we think you’ll like the end result of adding some polka dots to your home décor. Here are a few ways to do it tastefully.

Throw Pillows
A safe way to add polka dots to your room without jumping in to a huge commitment is to add a few throw pillows in a polka dot pattern to your couch or chair. This low-risk experiment will allow you to live with the design for a bit to see if you want to add a more dramatic polka dot addition to your home.

Curtains
Polka dots are a fantastic way to add a jolt of color, fun and pattern to any room, and a manageable way to add it is on window coverings. We bet that any girl would love polka dot curtains in her room, but it’s also fun in a bathroom or guest bedroom.

Wall Borders
We agree, it may be too much to paint every wall in the room in polka dots without it looking a bit, well, dotty, and not in a good way. However, we love the look of a wall border of dots or one wall entirely in dots to add a playful touch to bathrooms, playrooms and children’s rooms.

Stickers on Walls and Windows
Another low-risk way to experiment with dots is to us polka dot wall stickers down a boring hallway or toddler room. Repositionable vinyl stickers are a great choice to use on a sliding glass door or window. If you don’t like the look, all you have to do is peel and remove. Easy!
